Hey, Frank here. I am not by any means a woodshop pro or woodworking expert. I am just a regular guy who has to do stuff around the house every once in awhile. I am a husband and a dad who has to help kids do woodshop projects, and fix stuff in our home.
I work in the people and service industry. I have always been good at working with people and communicating, but never any good when it came to working with my hands. I currently live in North Texas and have spent most of my adult life working with people in Texas and Arizona. I am also an entrepreneur and enjoy writing, so I have written a few reviews of products and services. Occasionally, when I find a really good product that I think people like me will really like and use, I write about it.
I grew up in a small town in West Texas in a farming community and spent a lot of time working on farms. I did not live on a farm, but everybody there took ag classes and that also included woodshop. But even though I had to do a lot of manual labor growing up, I was never any good at working with my hands. I was always the last to finish working on any art project or wood project. I have to be perfectly honest when I say that I am still not good at working with my hands. Sometimes I feel like I was born with 10 thumbs.
Last year I moved into an old house. It was in need of some repair. My wife had plans to fix it up. If It had not been for the help of a few friends, I would have been sunk. I had to fix the old mailbox. It was hideous and had been “decorated” with bathroom tile. I could really have used a good set of mailbox plans, but I managed to do that without messing up anything too badly. My friends really helped me so much with our kitchen plans.

We had to remove the false ceiling and fluorescent lighting in the kitchen and replace it with sheetrock and can lights. (When I say “we” I really mean “they” since I just mostly held stuff and fetched stuff for them.) We also had to cut off the center island in the kitchen which was taking up way to much space, and put a new end on it. Again, I use the term “we” very loosely. We are getting ready to replace an old sliding door from the 60’s with some new French doors from Lowe’s.
Well, I decided I cannot always be asking my friends to help me if I want to keep any friends. So I determined that even if I am not really good at working with my hands, I have to learn a few basic skills. I also needed some good woodworking ideas. I also noticed that my friends, even though they are good at working with wood and other stuff, they still messed up and had to start over sometimes. It is not always being good, but perseverance that counts.
So, this website really has to do with my quest to become a woodworking rookie. I really feel that there are quite a few people who can relate to me, too. So, if this helps someone else, “great!” Mostly, it is about me trying to fix up a few things around my house and try to keep my wife happy with this old house.
Oh, and by the way, I did find a few extremely helpful resources that anybody can benefit from. I will share a few of the most helpful ones on this site. Even though I am not good with my hands, I can follow instructions, if they are simple, step-by-step, and include pictures, and maybe a video.
Best Regards,
